The Hand That Holds My Heart
Georgina picked up her engagement ring and matching wedding band yesterday in Whitehorse. In true Yukon girl style she did while her truck was being serviced. :) My ring is going to be a simple curved solid jade ring. The wedding will be August 4th in Watson Lake with an evening lakeside ceremony. Georgina nixed my idea of getting on horses and riding off into the sunset after the vow and ring exchange.

Caribou Hide Scraping
Kaska elder Fred McMillan working on a caribou hide to deflesh it and scrape the hide clean of fat. Fred made the stone age scraper and chipped a scrapper stone that is lashed to the pole with babiche. The students are visiting Fred afternoons this week as part of their cultural skill development goals in the school districts Aboriginal Education Enhancement Agreement that we signed last year. Denetia School is one of the leaders in the district for community teaching with elders.
